![]() I use a few different Pro Tools templates that a few big artists use in my genre (Pop/Urban), and while those templates weren't tailored to my voice specifically, you would think the tweaks I have to make would be subtle. With the BAE, I also find myself cutting an excessive amount of muddiness. Often times I feel this guilt for over-processing things in the mix stage, especially to get the presence that cuts through. I don't have too much of a problem getting the sound I want in the mixing stage, but I've heard good things about a Neve's ability to get vocals to sit well in a mix. The interface is a UAD Apollo Thunderbolt (Silver). My current vocal chain is Sony C-800g > BAE 1073mp > UAD Cl1b Emulation to print. I just wanted to hear some thoughts on going from BAE to Neve. Drums punchy like no other, vocals warm with a smooth bite. Recently, mixing engineeer Jaycen Joshua mixed some records I produced and I was blown away at how he enhanced everything with his Neve 1073's. ![]() Years ago I wasn't sold on hardware magic, but I really do believe in it now. I think the pre sounds good to my ears, but I've always wondered if a real Neve 1073 would add an extra something. I've owned a BAE 1073MP Preamp for about 7 years now, and it's been strictly used for my own vocals. Looking for some thoughts from experienced ears with BAE and Neve.
